1/20 Program to resize document images for uploading
The tax software limits an image's size for uploading to 1 megabyte. A link to download and easy tool to resize images has been added to the left. Right click on the image of instructions below to save it and print it. After installing the program, you just right click on an image, choose a size, and click Resize to get a new reduced size file appended with the name of the size you chose.
1/20 Cash advance notice
We have received notice that the IRS will not acknowledge any more returns until Monday when it officially opens. This means no more cash advances can be approved until then. Please continue to send in your returns and we will transmit them to the IRS for review on Monday.
1/20 Congratulations for our first warehousers
Helen M and Katherine M had a photo finish in getting at least 25 returns warehoused before the IRS started accepting this week. They each earned a $100 gift card!
1/20/2017 Good Funds Letter for customers to cash checks
Some banks require additional documentation from companies that provide printed checks prior to cashing them. Under the Bank/Client Forms dropdown to left is a link to the Good Funds Letter to give to customers in addition to the printed check to alleviate issues when trying to cash it.

1/19/2017 E1 cards and Schedule C Worksheet procedures
The correct number to enter into the system for the E1 debit card is the one seen in the window that begins with nine zeroes.
A Schedule C Worksheet MUST accompany any return with a Schedule C. It is a safeguard to show that the customer provided the information you entered into the system if you were to be audited by the IRS.

A lot of people have yet to attend my marketing webinar. While you can can choose to apply for $500, $800, or $1200 in the system, the bank makes decides who qualifies for the advance and the amount. Clients have reported approvals at all three levels.

James got free marketing by sending an email to his local newspaper's website regarding the benefit of filing early. He used the terms 'breaking news' and 'for immediate release' to draw attention to his business. Below is the the post on the newspaper website. Does your local newspaper have a website that you could contact to post a similar ad?
1/17/2017 Easy access to customers' W2 and 1095C forms
At the top left we have added a link titled 'Download Employer's W2 & 1095C'. 5000 employers upload employees' wage and earning statements to this website. You can assist the customer in downloading the forms. After entering the information into the system, you can then upload the document file through the document manager instead of printing and scanning.
1/17/2017 Signature and document procedures
As we are reviewing returns we are sending some of them back because we are missing signatures, mostly Firm and Preparer, but also some taxpayers. Also documents are not being scanned and attached. Please remember that we need the following: ID, income statements (such as w2 or 1099, schedule C client worksheet) and SS cards if available.
Here are step by step instructions for the Firm and Preparers to sign, they only have to sign one time.
Select radio button next to Firm Signature under Select which one to use signature pad:
Click Start button under Firm Signature (once this is sign the first time you never need to sign again)
Then click on Preparer Signature radio button under Select which one to use signature pad:
Choose preparer’s name in drop down next to Select Prepare (each preparer will need to sign once)
Click the Start button under Preparer Signature.
Then up top Click Save again.
Continue steps 9 – 13 for each preparer.

As a best practice, it is recommended that everyone require the customer to complete then scan and attach the Client Data Sheet and Schedule C Worksheet to prove the customer provided the information entered into program.

1/12/17 Activating the E1 Debit Card
Enter the entire number shown through the window of the envelope of the E1 card that starts with nine zeroes. For the customer to receive timely alerts when funds are available for the card, enter the Phone Details and Email & Security Information on the Taxpayer Identification Information screen. The customer then calls the 1-888 number or goes to the website listed on the card inside the envelope to activate the card upon receiving the alert.
1/12/17 UPDATED Proper Banking Procedures
When a customer pays up front prior to transmitting a return to the IRS, use the Non Banking option.
When a customer defers payment of all fees (preparation, bank product, add-on services, and promotional products) to come out of the refund, use the Banking option. The Banking option allows customers to apply for the Cash Advance. You can select RT/Advance if the customer wants to apply for the advance or RT if the customer only wants to defer the payment. ONLY PREPARERS IN ILLINOIS should use the Advance Only option. The return will be sent back to you if you select that option and are not in Illinois. A PowerPoint file titled Wrapping Up will be posted to 1040U to see the steps easier. Finally, change the status of the return to Ready to Review for 1040TaxBiz to review and transmit the return.
